ASTRA leads the market of voluntary household insurance
The company ASTRA Asigurari is the leader of the voluntary household insurance market, responsible for 58.4% of the policies in force as of June 30 current year on this segment, the correspondent volume of underwritings amounting to over RON 96.4 million. ASTRA has insured, thus, almost 15% of the total number of houses in Romania, with an average premium of RON 90, the number of contracts in force being of 1.12 million.
The company OMNIASIG ranked second based on the number of underwritten policies, with almost 168,000 contracts, followed by ALLIANZ-TIRIAC, with over 117,000 sold policies. However, in terms of underwritings volume, ALLIANZ-TIRIAC was ranked second, with RON 31.1 million, with an average premium of RON 505, followed by GENERALI Asigurari, with over RON 20 million and an average premium of RON 458.
The next two in top are part of the Austrian group VIENNA Insurance, BCR Asigurari being the fourth with RON 18.2 million and an average premium of RON 394, followed by OMNIASIG, with gross written premiums of voluntary household insurance worth almost RON 16 million, with an average premium of RON 175.
The share of houses insured, out of the total of the Romanian buildings, raises to almost nearly 25%, the number of contracts in force being 1.9 million, out of the estimated total of 8.3 million homes, according to the latest ISC data. Gross written premiums of the insurers operating on this segment amounted to RON 240.4 million after the first half of this year, that is a little less than 38% of the total of the underwritings on the property class. Also, the average premium paid for insurance contracts rises up, now, to RON 161.
