EUR 2 billion for the Ukrainian insurance market in 2010
The volume of gross written premiums for 2010 by the insurance companies in Ukraine totaled EUR 2.13 billion, 12.9% more than in 2009 (EUR 1.78 billion). At the same time, the paid claims volume decreased by 9%, down to EUR 576.9 million (from EUR 585.2 million in 2009), according to the results published in INSURANCE TOP Magazine.
On insurance classes, the underwritings grew on the life segment, up to EUR 87.96 million (in 2009 - EUR 72.23 million) while the non-life segment exceeded EUR 2 billion - when in 2009 their level was EUR 1.71 billion.
In the analyzed period of time, the value of premiums ceded in reinsurance was EUR 1 billion, increasing by 20.9% as to EUR 776.3 million, in 2009. Moreover, the premiums transferred to non-resident reinsurers reached EUR 93.75 million, down by 10.2% when comparing to 2009 (EUR 96.42 million).
Currently, a number of 456 companies are active on the Ukrainian insurance market among which 66 are life insurers.
