GENERALI Asigurari: Plus 20% in 2009; business above the market average in 2010
GENERALI Asigurari ended 2009 with business of RON 501.5 million, registering an increase of 20% compared to 2008, when the company's underwritings were at the level of RON 417.5 million. Thus, general insurance has evolved by 26%, up to RON 417.2 million (compared to RON 332.1 million in 2008), while life insurance was maintained at approximately the same level as in the previous year, the decrease being of only 1%, to RON 84.4 million.
"Given that the insurance market has been hit hard by the economic turmoil, registering a modest growth in 2009 compared with expectations and with the history of recent years, the fact that we got a double-digit general growth is a confirmation that the strategy adopted by us was the correct one. We applied and we will continue to apply the same cautious underwriting policy, because we prefer to have a healthy company, with a solid future and that can offer safety to customers", said Marie KOVAROVA, General Manager, GENERALI Asigurari.
On the general insurance segment, important evolutions were recorded in general liability classes (39%), fire and allied perils insurance (18%), and within this class stands out households insurance, which rose by 24%.
On the life segment, the insurance group achieved an increase of 18%, while individual insurance was slightly affected by the unfavorable economic environment, by the increasing unemployment rate, by the blocking of personal and professional projects and also by the psychological crisis, the company said.
"In the conditions in which the life insurance market has decreased by about 10% in the first 9 months of 2009, we believe that maintaining at the level of 2008 is a success. For 2010, a main objective is to revive this segment, insufficiently developed in Romania, both in terms of diversification of products, and in terms of national distribution", explained KOVAROVA. So, regarding 2010, GENERALI Asigurari is expected to have a good year, adding that it will focus on opportunities.
"For 2010, we want a healthy and profitable growth on all business lines and a total evolution of the volume of gross written premiums above the average of the insurance market, estimated at 4-5%", concluded the General Manager of the company.
