Road Police activity was reduced by 40% in 2009, after the introduction of the amicable report
"The entry into force of the amicable report and of the bonus-malus was a good thing from the point of view of the Road Police, because our overall activity was reduced in 2009 by 40% in the road accidents sections, and in January 2010 the reduction was even of 78%", said Marian MOTOC, Deputy Director, IGPR (Romanian Police).
"By the two new procedures, a much greater responsibility of drivers is achieved. Thus, in 2009 we observed a decrease of 4.6% of the total number of accidents, in the same period the cases of death in road accidents decreasing by 9.8%, considering that the infrastructure has not suffered significant changes. Last year, in accidents involving casualties, 5% of the total fleet of vehicles nationwide was involved", explained the official.
However, Marian MOTOC added, "we should work on reviving the information of drivers regarding these changes and procedures, and we would want to support insurance companies in this regard, because good information also reduces costs, and so the Police activity can focus on traffic monitoring. Whatever the solution we identify in common, the Police will give all the necessary support to contribute to road traffic safety".
