Russian insurers have reported EUR 24 billion in written premiums in
2009, a decrease by 2.5% in comparison to the previous year, according
to Aleksandr KOVALY, President of the Federal Insurance Supervision
Service. At the same time, paid claims rose by 17%, up to EUR 18
billion.
According to KOVALY, insurance companies have reported a positive result in 2009, considering the fact that in the last quarter of the 2009 they've increased their premiums comparing to the first nine months, when the GWP went down by 9,7%. "Insurers have managed to increase their financial indicators but that doesn't mean that this year will be better on the market", concluded KOVALY.
He also added that insurance supervising authority will pay special attention to the quality of the company's assets as well as to the certain insurance classes, especially MTPL. Thus, insurance companies have reported an increase in premiums but recorded less claims and the number of complains from the clients have rose.
In 2009, there were 702 insurance companies on the market and 144 brokers
