Thus, over 70% of respondents would allocate additional amounts in order to benefit from medical recovery services, surgeries, hospitalization or laboratory tests, and between 56% - 65% for primary medical services, imaging or care at home.

In fact, from year to year, they prove to be the solution preferred by customers. In this context, insurance could be the answer, as it happens in most European countries. According to the survey, in the case of hospitalization in a public hospital, Romanians would pay extra for better hospitalization conditions (67%), more complex medical procedures (56%) or access to a certain doctor (49%). Other mentioned services refer to: laboratory / imaging analyzes, professionalism of the medical staff, observance of appointments, modern equipment, surgical interventions. Depending on the age category, people aged 18-30 have a higher availability to pay extra for better hospitalization services.

UNSAR stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has also brought changes in Romanians' perception of health and disease risks, as 42% of respondents say the pandemic has increased their interest in voluntary health insurance, 14% more compared to the previous year.

The IRES-UNSAR survey was conducted on a sample of 1,336 respondents aged 18-50, in May 2021, using the CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) method.
