Without insurance, you're at the mercy of the authorities!
 "The evolution of the insurance industry in Moldova was slow, since the profile market did not develop at the same rate on all insurance classes. Thus, motor policies, either the voluntary Motor Hull ones, or the mandatory MTPL or Green Card ones, were more requested by customers, to the detriment of the property segment or of the general liability segment", said Eugeniu SLOPAC, General Manager, ASITO.
In this context, for most profile companies, portfolio consists of approximately 70% motor insurance. "Despite the floods in the last period, we have very few claims for compensation, because people are not insured", said the Director of the Marketing and Sales Department of the company ASITO, Ion CISLARU.
 "When a natural calamity happens, Moldavian citizens turn to government support. The help of the officials comes from public money, money which sectors such as education or health are deprived of. Household insurance must be promoted more, so that the public sector resources are no longer wasted in the event of a catastrophic event", said Eugeniu SLOPAC. Frequency of flooding in Moldova is growing, as well as material losses, people remaining most of the time at the mercy of the authorities, in order to recover at least part of the damage.
Regarding the impact of the economic crisis, the local profile market dropped only by 5 percentage points and ended the year on profit, "although its effects could have been much stronger for the whole industry", said the General Manager of ASITO.
